About CCE at CPS

To promote the holistic development of the students and help students learn and apply values in meaningful and authentic contexts, the school adopts a holistic approach by integrating the school-based and MOE CCE curriculum into both the academic and non-academic lessons.

CCE at CPS aims to provide students with authentic learning experiences to engage their head, heart and hands so that they are able to understand what they have experienced and internalize what they have learnt. Thereafter, reflection is carried out to help them develop greater self-awareness, critical thinking and problem solving.

Values Education Programme for P1 & P2 (CCE@CPS)

CCE@CPS is the school's Values Education programme for Primary 1 and Primary 2 students. The five school values are taught explicitly through the use of Making Thinking Visible (MTV) routines. Using their customised CCE@CPS activity journal, My Journey of Character Growth, students are provided with opportunities and platforms to develop into responsible and compassionate citizens.

Through a variety of learning experiences, students build problem-solving skills and learn to make a positive impact on those around them. The activity journal serves as a record of their reflections, supporting their holistic development in the areas of values, leadership, reflective learning, and personal growth.

Programme for Active Learning (PAL) for P1 and P2

As an integral part of the curriculum for Primary 1 and Primary 2 students, the Programme for Active Learning (PAL) provides active, hands-on, and meaningful learning experiences. PAL helps students develop important soft skills, such as communicating effectively, collaborating with others, nurturing a lively curiosity about the world around them, and building confidence in their ability to accomplish tasks and overcome challenges.

PAL broadens students' learning experiences and lays a strong foundation for future learning and growth. Through fun and varied activities, lower primary students are given broad exposure and enriching experiences in the following two areas:

•          Sports & Games and Outdoor Education

•          Visual Arts and Performing Arts

These programmes aim to support the holistic development of students across the five domains: moral, cognitive, physical, social, and aesthetic.

National Education & Social Studies (NE & SS)

Launched in 1997, National Education (NE) aims to nurture students’ national identity and sense of togetherness. It is enacted through platforms such as Social Studies (SS), school assembly programmes, and the commemoration of four core NE events namely — Total Defence Day, International Friendship Day, Racial Harmony Day and National Day. The Primary Social Studies syllabus supports this by equipping students with the knowledge, skills, values, and dispositions to make informed decisions and to collaborate effectively in a multicultural and interdependent world.

National Education (NE) Students’ Learning Experiences

National Education (NE) students’ learning experiences are intentionally designed and customized around the four core NE events - Total Defence Day, International Friendship Day, Racial Harmony Day, and National Day - to provide authentic contexts for learning. Through these commemorations, students apply knowledge, internalize values, and develop dispositions such as resilience, respect, and unity, thereby strengthening their sense of national identity, belonging, and responsibility.

 Total Defence Day

Total Defence Day is commemorated on 15 February each year to mark the Fall of Singapore. This day serves as a reminder for students to understand their role in safeguarding the nation. Through purposeful school-based activities, students learn about the six pillars of Total Defence, Military, Civil, Economic, Social, Digital and Psychological Defence and recognise how each pillar contributes to Singapore’s security. They come to understand that Total Defence is a shared responsibility and are encouraged to play their part through everyday actions, strengthening Singapore’s resilience and readiness for future challenges.

Students commemorate Total Defence Day (TDD) through assembly programmes, recess activities and classroom activities.

International Friendship Day

International Friendship Day is observed on the third Friday of Term Two. This is a key National Education platform to deepen students’ understanding of Singapore’s relationships with its neighbours. It provides opportunities for students to appreciate the diverse cultures and perspectives, and to recognise the importance of mutual respect, empathy, and openness in building strong friendships. Through these experiences, students strengthen social cohesion and develop a sense of belonging and responsibility in contributing to a harmonious, multicultural society.

Students commemorate International Friendship Day (IFD) through appreciation of diverse cultures’ activities and persepctives.

Racial Harmony Day

Racial Harmony Day, commemorated on 21 July, marks the anniversary of the 1964 Singapore race riots and the importance of preserving racial and religious harmony in Singapore. It provides a platform for students to reflect on and celebrate Singapore as a harmonious, multicultural society shaped by its rich diversity. Through this commemoration, students recognize that social cohesion is a shared responsibility, requiring the collective effort of all to uphold mutual respect and unity.

Students commemorated Racial Harmony Day through traditional games and meaningful interactions, learning the importance of friendship, respect, and unity in diversity.

National Day

National Day marks Singapore’s separation from Malaysia in 1965, and our emergence as an independent country. Since 1998, schools commemorate National Day to help students appreciate the historical significance and solemnity of Singapore’s independence, and to strengthen their sense of national identity, belonging, and responsibility as citizens. Through meaningful experiences, students reflect on Singapore’s journey, recognize the contributions and sacrifices of those who came before them, and are inspired to play an active role in shaping the nation’s future.

Students commemorated National Day by participating in school celebrations, singing national songs, and reflecting on Singapore’s journey and achievements.

Social Studies Learning Journeys

The Social Studies Learning Journey is a key experiential component of the social studies curriculum, designed to deepen students’ understanding of Singapore’s history, culture, and societal values through authentic, real-world contexts. By venturing beyond the classroom, students engage with key landmarks, heritage sites, and institutions that bring concepts to life. Through guided inquiry, interactive experiences, and structured reflection, students strengthen their sense of national identity, appreciate Singapore’s multicultural fabric, and develop as informed, responsible citizens.

Primary 5 NE Show

All Primary 5 students are strongly encouraged to attend the NE Show as a key National Education milestone to deepen their connection to Singapore. Through the live-scale experience of the National Day Parade, learning extends beyond the classroom, strengthening their sense of identity, belonging, and pride. At this stage, they are ready to appreciate the significance of Singapore's independence in 1965, reflect on the nation’s journey, and be inspired to see themselves as active contributors shaping Singapore’s future.

Primary 5 students immersed themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the National Education Show, celebrating Singapore’s achievements, diversity, and shared national spirit.

Values-In Action (VIA)

Values in Action (VIA) are purposeful learning experiences that nurture students to become socially responsible citizens who contribute meaningfully to the community through the application of values, knowledge, and skills.

Our school’s VIA efforts aim to enable students to:

• Develop awareness and understanding of real community needs and issues;

• Take meaningful action to make a positive difference in the lives of others;

• Reflect on their experiences to deepen learning and internalise core values;

• Exercise ownership by collaboratively proposing and leading ways to contribute to the community.

Anchored on the theme “Active Hands, Caring Hearts, Stronger Community”, our VIA approach is designed as a developmental journey of Care. Students begin by learning to care for themselves and their immediate relationships, before progressively extending their impact to the class, school, and the wider community. At every stage, VIA experiences are intentionally crafted through the Head, Heart, and Hands framework, where students learn, feel, and act. Through this purposeful progression, we aim to nurture a strong Sense of Belonging and, more importantly, develop the Will to Act, empowering students to grow as active contributors to society.

Termly School Values Star Student Award

The Termly School Values Star Student Award recognises students who consistently demonstrate the school values and serve as positive role models who inspire others. It reflects the school’s commitment to affirming and motivating students to uphold good behaviour and embody these values.
