Overview of Student Leadership Development

At Cantonment Primary School, we believe every child has the potential to lead and inspire. Our Student Leadership Development (SLD) programme is thoughtfully designed to nurture this potential, equipping our Prefects, Peer Support Leaders (PSL), CCA leaders and Class leaders with the values, mindset, and skills to lead with purpose, compassion, and resilience.

The Three Dimensions of Leadership

Leadership is more than a title, it is a mindset and a set of skills that can be nurtured from a young age. At Cantonment Primary School, we believe the primary school years provide a strong foundation for developing leadership. During this stage, students are naturally curious, eager to contribute, and receptive to learning values through meaningful experiences. We provide structured, authentic opportunities for students to lead themselves, work effectively with others, and contribute ideas that make a positive difference.

1. Self-Leadership: Leading Self. Through The Leader in Me and the 7 Habits, students develop self-awareness, set meaningful goals, cultivate a growth mindset, and build habits of personal responsibility, self-discipline, and reflection.

2. Team Leadership: Leading Others. Students learn to communicate with respect and empathy, collaborate effectively, resolve conflicts constructively, and lead by example while supporting and inspiring their peers.

3. Community Leadership: Leading Positive Change. Students develop a sense of responsibility towards their school and the wider community. Through authentic opportunities to exercise student voice, lead initiatives, innovate and contribute ideas, they learn to advocate for positive change and inspire others to make a meaningful difference.

Tiers of Leadership Appointment in CPS

Leadership at CPS is inclusive, ensuring that every student has a pathway to grow:

Tier 1: All Students – Practicing self-leadership through daily routines and character education.
Tier 2: Class Leaders & Peer Buddies – Developing team leadership as environment champions and subject representatives
Tier 3: Prefects, PSLs, and CCA leaders – Influence school-wide positive change, inspiring, supporting and mentoring others.
